Melanie Konynenberg, MC Counselling Psychology, BMus
B.C. Registered Clinical Counsellor
I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Alberta and a master's degree in counselling psychology from Athabasca University. I have been married for 24 years and I am a mom to one teen and two young adults.
I appreciate the beauty of nature, the power of music, and the companionship of dogs and other furry creatures. In my life, I have experienced both joy and pain, and have arrived at the other side with increased resilience and hope.
I have worked with children, youth, and adults as a registered clinical counsellor in community-based and private practice clinics.
I have experience as a behavior interventionist in the autism intervention program with Okanagan Similkameen Neurological Society (OSNS). Previously, I taught music in schools, along with private and group lessons in voice, piano, and musical theatre.
I work in collaboration with clients to uncover strengths, abilities, resources, and meaning. I believe the experiencing of fulfillment and the discovery of purpose and hope can lead to increased wellness. I prioritize the creation of a safe, warm, and empathic therapeutic relationship in which the client is placed as the expert.
I work with solution-focused interventions, EMDR, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), and strength-based modalities.
I trained in Gottman levels 1 and 2 couple's counselling and emotion-focused family therapy core 1 and 2. I have completed trauma-focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (TF-ACT) training.
I am an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained therapist.
Primary areas of therapy focus include trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationships, parenting, life transitions, meaning and purpose, and spirituality.
